How Does It Work
Vertical Slipforming is a unique process and differs significantly from conventional forming methods. Conventional forms are basically "fixed" molds into which plastics concrete is poured and allowed to harden before the form is removed.

With slipforms, the plastic concrete is poured in shallow layers into a semi-continuously moving form, which shapes the concrete like a die and holds it in the form only long enough for the concrete to hold its shape when it emerges below the bottom of the form.
3 & 6-ton Jacks
This system combines the slipforms with two levels of work platforms. Concrete placement and installation of all reinforcing steel, block-outs, inserts, and embedments is performed on the main work platform attached to the top of the slipforms.

Suspended below the main work platforms are the finishers work platforms which provide access to the wall surfaces below the slipforms for finishing, quality control inspection, repairs, and removal of block-outs while the slipforms is rising.

Note that the 22-ton jacking system is entirely compatible with 3 & 6-ton jacking system and are frequently combined to best suit each project.
22-ton Jacks
Similar to the standard system but utilizing higher capacity jacks, larger yokes, and an upper "grid system" of steel beams to support a third level work platform some 10 feet above the slipform.

Higher capacity jacks means fewer jacks are needed and allows for strategic positioning away from openings, non-continuous walls, and high concentrations of reinforcing steel. Larger yokes means increased yoke spacing for more efficient placement of reinforcing steel, block-outs, inserts, and embedments.

The third work platform provides additional material storage space, a means for placing and supporting heavy vertical reinforcing steel, concrete distribution, and a rigid structure for maintaining slipform plan dimensions, essential for the production of accurately formed concrete. This system is often used for structures with many interior walls such as flour and feed mill buildings and for elevator and stair cores in hi-rise buildings which have many repeated openings.
